We protested the recent property tax bill. My wife attended the hearing this morning and due to a scheduling conflict I was unable to attend. In retrospect it's probably a good thing. Anyway, during the hearing my wife tells me that she felt very intimidated by the review board. The questions and responses that were given and ask made her feel like she was at a parole hearing. Example, one board member says 'well, we pay taxes too', another one ' you live in a desirable neighborhood'. They did not listen, and no reduction in the property tax.
The appraisal board was a complete JOKE! You've heard of kangaroo court...well this is what you get at the Parker County Board Hearings. I went into the hearing with 20 pages of support and they didn't even read the entire data. They had arrived at a valuation before I had a chance to explain my position. In addition, multiple members have a flawed understanding of the USPAP (Universal Standards of Professional Appraisal Practices), as they almost repeat like a parrot what the district has indoctrinated them with (1+1=20..that's Parker County ARB Math). Look I have no problem paying my fair share, but these guys are absolute CROOKS!
Used to live in Parker Co & the assessors office was easy to work with some years ago. All the previous 1 stars on these reviews are 100% spot on. The ARB is a joke & the head Tax Assessor needs to be voted out of office. If I still voted there I'd donate $$$ to a replacement & get someone in who will stop this madness. By the way, the full time residential assessor is a buffoon, who knows nothing about assessing except how to look on the MLS. I don't even think anyone in the office has a 10th grade education, although the ag guys are decent people.
I cannot describe how the county and the city of Weatherford are taxing homeowners out of their homes.
We do believe in paying taxes, but when does it stop? When is enough , enough? Shaking my head.
I must say that the district is very nice when speaking to or welcoming customers. However, the appeal panel was poorly prepared when arriving at market value and unequal appraisal. I find that many of the other districts are much better at analyzing the data and providing a common ground. A good example is how that the district will focus on 1 sale when it is your property's recent sales price, but the next year they focus on 6 comps. The manner that they arrived at market was without analysis of all the facts and before I could provide detailed evidence multiple members of the panel had already reached a decision (this was verbal). I think that this could have been avoided with better training. Regardless, I wish all you tax fighters the best in Parker County.
